The Hype behind Fifty Shades of Grey

The Hype behind Fifty Shades of Grey. By Amber

Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has generated much controversy since its publication. Whether this controversy is caused by the subject matter, an inaccurate portrayal of BDSM and its community, or the depiction of a dysfunctional relationship as healthy , these books have opened the way for wider discussions on sexuality and sexual practices. The once tabooed practice of BDSM (Bondage & Discipline, Sadism & Masochism) was a great focus of these books and, because of this, has been brought into the spotlight and freely talked about. In fact, pleasure brand LELO reported a 50% increase in bondage toy sales since the novels release and the number of people experimenting with bondage and role playing games is rising dramatically. However from this hype, some clients are a little too eager, and don’t consider the precautions required for BDSM play.

Many couples do not realise that they must invest in proper equipment (i.e DO NOT buy rope from your local hardware shop) and learn proper techniques as this can be very dangerous if done incorrectly. This is when the friendly and knowledgeable staff at Be Daring come in, with information to guide you in the right direction.

Here at Be Daring we have a whole section dedicated to this exciting practice and staff that can help you choose the right product for you. Here I’ll be naming a few to get you started.

RopeNEVER EVER use rope from your local hardware shop. It will bruise and cut your skin, so unless you want to have to explain those suspicious marks around your wrists, I highly recommend silk rope. Not only is this a lot more comfortable to use, it shouldn’t leave abrasions on your skin, provided it is not too tight. Knots –

NEVER use knots learnt from scouts. This can be incredibly dangerous , always use the proper knots. If knots are done too tightly this could restrict your partner’s airways, or induce panic. For proper BDSM play we recommend investing in Two Knotty Boys. This book is easy to read and will demonstrate how to tie knots specifically for BDSM.

Couples Guide - If your completely new to BDSM play, then I would highly recommend The Couples Guide to Fifty Shades of Grey. This DVD goes into detail where the book doesn’t, such as safe words, crops and even ben wa balls. The DVD also features hard core sex scenes to demonstrate how to put BDSM into practice. With these products, you will be on your way to exploring exciting new sensations and making your fantasies a reality. Remember to always take it slow, pay attention and enjoy yourself.

If something hurts then simply, STOP.
