What You Need to Know About Having Anal Sex for the First Time (Part One)
Everyday customers enter the store asking for advice about having Anal Sex for the first time. Many are excited, some are concerned or worried, and others are keen to be super prepared, buying up a storm! I’ve decided to collect the tips I give to customers daily and post them on our website for those who are too bashful to come into the store and ask.
It is important to note that Anal Sex has been taboo, shamed and illegal for many centuries and in some cases, is still illegal! It is important to consider if you have any of these cultural prejudices have influenced your feelings and work towards lessen their impact on each other. A good way to do this is to overprepare when it comes to anal hygiene. Good anal hygiene equals mental relaxation, and mental relaxation equals amazing anal sex!
Anal Hygiene Tip 1 – Get Clean
For your first experience, I recommend “overpreparing” because although it's rare; sometimes Anal Sex can get messy. You will be more relaxed knowing there will be absolutely no issues or accidents, and just like the first time you had vaginal sex, being relaxed is paramount.
The best way to do this is using an anal douche 1 – 2 hours beforehand. Contrary to what you have been told or may believe, we have many of these in store and online. In fact, we sell at least one a day, so do not be embarrassed about coming in and picking one up!
To use, fill the water reservoir with warm water. If you use cold water, you will get cramping, and if the water is too hot you will cause irritation to the tissues. As a rule, if you drink filtered water use this in the reservoir, if you drink tap water then use tap water in the douche.
Lubricate the nozzle with a good anal lubricant before insertion, and empty the bottle contents into the anal cavity. Hold for 10 – 15 seconds and release. The main mistake people make when using a douche, is using too much water and overfilling the rectal cavity. You are only aiming to clean the first 6-8 cms, so remember that overfilling will stimulate digestion and make things messier.
Another consideration is personal comfort. Try using the douche in the shower, or over the toilet, try kneeling, sitting, standing or lying on your side. Experiment and find what works for you, and then use this position every time. Lastly, make sure you give yourself several hours to ensure any trapped water comes out of the area in time for anal play!
Anal Hygiene Tip 2 – Put down a towel
For peace of mind, comfort and mental relaxation it is an excellent idea to put a towel down over the bed or chosen area before anal play. Not only does this protect in case of accidents, but female ejaculation is also more likely to occur when a woman is relaxed and knows they won’t mess the place up!
Anal Hygiene Tip 3 – Don’t go from anal play to vaginal play without cleaning up
E. Coli is a bacterium that lives naturally in the gut and resides in the anal canal causing minimal issues. However, if it transfers to the Urethra and works its way upwards, it can cause Candida (thrush) and Urinary Tract Infections. This is more common in women than men, because of their shorter Urethra and requires extra care to be taken when playing. Soothe by Intimate Earth (pictured below) is a very high quality anal lubricant containing guava bark, a known natural antibacterial agent.
Anal Hygiene Tip 4 – Use gloves
Using gloves has several benefits. Firstly, they are inexpensive to buy and easy to add to anal play. The knowledge that an accident (although rare) will not make contact with your partner's skin can be reassuring (particularly the first time). The latex feel of the gloves can turn some folks on and add to the foreplay experience. Lastly, gloves allow for easy and hygienic transfer between anal and vaginal play, simply take them off to begin vaginal play.
Tattoo gloves (buy online) are tightly fitted to the hand and come in black which looks great. While medical gloves are easily obtained from the local pharmacist, they are usually more loosely fitted, and the folds can sometimes irritate the anal muscles, so smaller is better than larger.
Other considerations when purchasing gloves are their compatibility with your lubricant and massage oils, a question we can easily clarify for you. Finally, if you are allergic to latex, you can purchase non-latex alternatives such as nitrile gloves online which are compatible with oil based lubricants.
Anal Hygiene Tip 5 – If anal play gets messy, keep calm and clean up
If there is an accident, relax, stay calm, reassure one another, don’t be judgmental and clean up promptly. Let your partner know you’re not freaking out about it, so they don’t start worrying. If you are the dominant partner, perhaps encourage your lover to jump in the shower, while you clean up. If they seem up to it, restart the sex session in the bathroom or play a game to restart things again! If not, then provide reassurance and do something else together, like cook a meal or watch a movie. Something you like doing together that will take your partner's mind off an accident and back onto your relationship.
The greatest part about a mishap occurring after following my tips, is it won’t be a big deal, won’t make much mess, and won’t take long to clean up!
